AFL 4 – Scoil Uí Chonaill 3-13 O’Dwyers 1-13
The curse of a slow start came back to haunt O’Dwyers Intermediates yesterday morning in Clontarf.
Within the first 15 minutes of the game O’Dwyers found themselves 3-02 to 0-00 down. Worst start imaginable for the travelling team.
O’Dwyers started to get a hold on the middle of the park which lead to a small comeback leading up to half time.
O’Dwyers exploded into life in the second half hitting five points without reply. Scoil Uí Chonaill didn’t know what had hit them. With 10 minutes remaining Liam Prout picked the ball up inside the 45 yard line, ran at the Scoil defence and buried into into the back of the net. A glimmer of hope shone in the O’Dwyers players eyes as an comeback was on. Unfortunately as the deficit reduced, the time ran out and O’Dwyers just could not close the gap fully.
With some impressive displays from Johnny McGarry, Seán Garvan, Liam Prout, Emmet Sheridan & Coman Burke, O’Dwyers can take hugh positives from this game and bring into next weeks cup game v St Brigids and then into the second league game against St Finians Newcastle.
