O’Dwyers GAA Club – Investing in the Future
O’Dwyers GAA club has a firm belief that the future success of the club will stem from our vibrant juvenile section. At present we currently field 19 juvenile teams, which continues to grow each year under the guidance of Aiden Smith and his juvenile committee. In a town which has seen significant growth over the last couple of years and with very little infrastructure present, we as a club identified a need for a place where the younger members could gather and socialise in a safe environment.
In 2012, we acquired some unused port cabins, which were kindly donated to us from a local school. The decision was taken to transform the once derelict port cabins into a place the kids could call their own. Every project needs a driving force and this came in the form of Derek Kiernan. He put a lot of time and effort in to this worthwhile cause. He was not left lacking support as a large amount of the clubs tradesmen gave up their time so freely to help make this room a reality.
After many hours of hard work we can now enjoy the fruits of our labor. As we prepare to open the room on St. Patrick’s Day we must also thank Diageo Ireland who kindly funded this project and without them this would not have been possible. We hope that the younger members of O’Dwyers will have years of enjoyment and we anticipate this will help them to develop the strong sense of club and community spirit. This trait will help us as a club to develop long into the future.
