Match Report
On Friday 19th September 2014 in St Annes Park, O’Dwyers GAA Adult Ladies created history by being the first ladies adult team to win a championship in the club.
It was a game of two halves. Naomh Olaf’s started from the whistle with a long ball into there full forward line and found the back of the net. O’Dwyers fought back to equalise playing up the hill. Olafs were awarded a penalty and hit the wood work.
Half-Time Score: O’Dwyers 1-06 Naomh Olafs 2-02
In the second half O’Dwyers lost their shape for 15mins but kept popping over points. In the last ten mins the Balbriggan ladies moved up a few gears and kept flooding the Olaf half with point after point. Olafs were down to 14 girls in the last 7mins after a foul on a green jersey. Shannon Richardson stepped up to take an accurate penalty into the back of the net. A few minutes later after a strong run by 14 year old Erin Healy covered 60 yards with the ball, she unselfishly passed to Shannon who found the back of net agin with a fantastic finish.
That was it, history was made. Lauren Sweeney had led her team to success.
Final Score: O’Dwyers 3-14 Naomh Olafs 2-04
Erin Healy received player of the match and overall it was an outstanding preformance from all the team.
Special mention to Shannon Richardson who scored 2-08 out of 3-14.
Well done Johnjo O Carroll, Fergus O’Carroll and Dolores Mooney. And of course all who came out to support our ladies
